Rationale

Three different Markets in Wellington were exhibited in my brochure with an extra infographics page. To properly reach my target audience I made sure my design well represented the aesthetic of the market places. This meant my brochure had a very homely and handmade vibe to it not commercial at all. This was achieved by the use of playful collage and bright colours in my work. I used a simple grid to contrast with my vibrant and busy collages and patterns on my slides. The grid being contestant though out as to not confuse the audience.

During this assignment I struggled with text the most and the layout so the readers eyes flows properly across the page. Also defining each market enough using collages so you can tell what theme each market holds.

Week Six

After talking to the teacher and making changes I went back and made even more changes as I STILL wasn't happy with the wild page and how I had fixed it up. It now looks more organised and systematic to look at, but also more neat.

Here is my development from my very first page (skipping some steps- they are in my book)

Week Six

I played around with my map text layout a little. But mainly wanted to work on my first 'general' slide. I didn't like the layout that I had already and needed to add a pull quote and my icons to the page. I made several different layouts with my pull quotes as I experimented with typefaces. Next I changed my last 'wild page' layout as systematically it wasnt easy to read across the page at all, it was much too confusing.

Then I put it all together in more brochures and from there changed the layout of my first slide even more because it still didnt look right to me. This took a lot of editing as I started tweaking small things in my work that I noticed as I compared my pages to one and other. I wanted to different the imagery SLIGHTLY more so I added some textures to the collages.

Week Five

I continued making brochures as I felt it was much easier to critique my work when I saw it in physical form. I changed my text layout slightly to make smaller paragraphs as they were perviously too long. I still was finding my text too hard to read so I changed the order of the paragraphs. Perviously I had a short one on the left and longer on the right however this didn't let the eye flow properly through the text. I also changed the font to 'open sans' when previously I had 'arial narrow' which made the text too thin for my liking and the reader.

Week Five

I was not happy with my cover. I would either make it look too busy or too 'bookish' so it wouldn't look like a brochure but more a book cover. Therefore I continued playing with layout. Also changing the font so that it was hand drawn and not computer generated text to give a more crafted style to the front cover.

This is where I also started working on my back page for my brochure. I experimented with layout as I had already chosen to match the colour to my front cover. The layout for the back cover was rather simple as I only wanted a texture and the text needed. I didn't want a lot of unnecessary information and I wanted it to look clean and simple in contrast to the front cover.

Week Five

We learnt about mapping and how to draw up maps in class. I had already made three maps in depth of the three areas however I had layered them up on top of each other to make a pattern to show how busy the vege market is. This time I wanted my map to be much more simplified so it wouldn't have an unnecessary information and be easy to follow. I did want to keep the aspect of it being hand drawn however to match the rest of the brochure.
